New hats - inspired by Africa

I wanted to show you two of the hats I made  - inspired by African fashion.

Crocheted pill-box hat with zebra detail

First I made an innerhat. Look at earlier post How to make a pill-Box hat where I have described how I make the innerhat.

I crocheted the cover of the hat using thin Cotton yarn matching crochet hook size No. 3

Finally I stiched the cover of the hat to the inside.  The zebra detail is an old scarf I had.

This is a pill-box hat covered with fabric - from an old scarf.
First I made the innerhat (check out earlier post How to make a pill-Box hat). I made a patten when I made the innerhat so that it would be easy to make the pattern for the cover. I cut out the fabric and then I handstiched it to the hat..

This is the top of the hat.

I attached a black feather (guineafowl feather pad) on the side - and to glam it up a bit - I just pinned on a beautiful big sprakling broach.

This hat was one of the hats in the hatpresentation on the 23. June - check earlier posts. At the last minutes we made som changes and we discovered that the hat wouldn't sit proberly on the models head. It just slipped of. As I was pretty exausted at the time I could not think of any solutions to this problem. So the other models had to find a solution them selfes - wich they did by attaching a Alice band - with pins.

Finally I put on some fabulous pheasant feathers. If you don't know were to get feathers; Ebay my friend,  Ebay - has it all :-)
This is a photo from the hatpresentation were Anne Kristin is the hat model.
