Multi colour beanie

Inspired by my new sneaker shoes, I have crocheted a beanie hat. Since it is almost impossible to crochet zebra and tiger patterns - I let the colours inspire me instead, and I love them. They make me happy.

 

I used yarn matching crohet needle no. 3.

Peach basket hat

I have finally got around to finishing this black peach basket hat. It is crocheted in a thinner yarn than the other 3 I made earlier this spring. I thought I would show you how I made them. Maybe you get inspired to making Your own?

I  make a innerhat with fabric or a kind of padding material that is thick enough to hold the shape of the hat.
I crocheted with yarn to match crochet needle number 3.

When I crochet the cover, I measure it all the time to make sure it suits. I decided to let a little bit of the inside-hat show. I liked the edging in an other colour. So I handstiched the cover to the innerhat on the top - and at the edges. After finishing the hat I am not to sure about the edge. Maybe I should have made it just in black.   I will just have to use it a couple of times and see if I like it.

 

UPDATE Monday 6. October :

 

I  have decided to keep the coloured edge. Love it.

 

 

 

 

Autumn colour: Limegreen

To my suprise suddenly all the craftshops were filled with limegreen yarn! It must have happende in just a couple of weeks. Well, I like it. And I have already made myself a beanie hat - just waiting for the temperatures to fall.

Summer hat DIY

If you want to change your straw summer hat, I have a couple of ideas for you. This first one is by crocheting a cover for the hat.


 


Change the hat completly by
Attaching padding around the crown to make it bigger and to give it another shape.

Crochet a cover
I crocheted a cover for the hat using Cotton yarn in pale blue. Or knit one - if you are good at knitting!

 

 

Change the look by
using different scarfes - or belt? or ? whatever you find in your warderobe.



Feather hat
I crocheted the crown of the hat. The reason why I like crocheting is because for me, it is easier than stiching fabric on it - or knitting. I put a ring of feathers around.

 

I covered the brim with pink fabric.

I had to pin the fabric on first. Afterwards I stiched it.

 

 

 

 

 Finally I had to attach the fabric to the hat - by handstiching the edges.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Feather ring

At first I glued the feathers in between 2silky ribbons . I was afraid that this would not be enough to hold the feathers in Place  - so I hand stiched the feathers to the ring.

 

I put fabric around the Crown to cover the ribbons on the feather ring.

TIP: These Straw hats I got really cheap in wintertime at a store who sells plants and gardening-stuff (Plantasjen) . I paid about 1 GB pound (10 kr) each for these. I so regret I didn't buy more than 3!

Simple and easy to make fascinators

This is an easy to make fascinator. You don't have feathers? I buy them on ebay.co.uk.

 

You need an Alice-band (you get these in the Craft-shop too) and a big feather. I have used:

Goose & coq feather mount, small goose feathers and stripped coq randomly positioned through Mount.

 

Bend the string/wire of the feather around one side of headband. If you use the same colour on both the headband and the feather the wire will not show.

Finished!

 

On this one I used Large hackle and coq feather mount on wire.

Crocheted saucer fascinator

Rachel Trevor Morgan has made a lot of beautiful hats and fascinators. One of them - a saucer fascinator (probably made in sinamay)- inspired me to try to make one like it - by crocheting. It is not so difficult to make. Below I will try to describe how I made it.

You need yarn and crochet hook (I used Cotton yarn to match hook No.3), a headband/Alice band made in of plastic with fabric draped around it (you get them in the Craft-shop) And you need some material to make it stay in shape. I used sinamy (millinary).

Crochet a circle, or the desired shape. This one is 25 cm wide. 

 

I used dc's - fastmasker.

 

 

Inside the fascinator I put sinamy (wich I had ironed) to make it hold the shape.

 

On the backside I stiched on silk fabric.

 

I pinned the fabric on, before I hand stiched it.

I would recommend to edge the fascinator with something, like a silk ribbon etc. This fascinator was made for the hatpresentation in June - and I did not have time to edge it.

 

The difficult part is to attach the saucer fascinator to the headband. I used sewingneedle that are shaped as a half circle. You might try to cut out a round piece of fabric - about 5-6 cm wide and stich this on the headband first (If you don't have sinamay, use some kind of thick wool fabric). Then you stich the fascinator to the fabric circle. And - almost every fabric shows so make sure to use the same colour.
